Prof. Dr. Axel Mellinger

Lecture Title:  Barrier-Film Encapsulated Ferroelectrets with High Breakdown Strength

Personal CV (a paragraph):Axel Mellinger obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1995 from the Technical University of Munich and the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics. After a 2-year post-doctoral stint at UC Berkeley he joined the Department of Physics at the University of Potsdam, Germany, where he completed his Habilitation, the highest German academic qualification, in 2005. Three years later he was appointed a tenure-track faculty member of Central Michigan University’s Department of Physics. Since 2019 he holds the rank of full professor. In addition to his work on electret materials and characterization techniques, Dr. Mellinger is also known in the astronomical community for his wide-field and time-lapse  images of the night sky. Since 2018 he is serving as secretary of the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society.
